Animation and Film

I Love the Postman!

Computer Animation

I Love the Postman! was my first short film animated in Softimage XSI from my Animation degree.

My idea was a light-hearted story about a child-like character playing excitedly with 'letters' received in the post. He creates fun personalities by finding new expressions from the shapes in the alphabet!

This film is all about learning, not only for the character in the story, but for all the techniques I gained in the production. My aims were to learn the computer animation program Softimage XSI, introducing working with a character rig, improving modelling skills and applying characteristics to a model. I worked hard on the setting to look homely and playful; with influences taken from classic British animation films, such as Aardman's A Grand Day Out with Wallace and Gromit.

I Love the Postman! helped taught me to consider the placement of cameras, lights and integrating forms of dialogue to actions. It was also the very first time I directed an actor to record the character's voice.
