Animation and Film

Sans

2D Drawn Animation & Sound Editing

Sans is a film created using traditional 2D animation and post production effects. It is an abstract animation based on the prose 'Lessness' by Samuel Beckett.

Sans was a group project with my fellow classmates Mark Fuell, Cem Hizli and Oliver Jones. We split the animation between the four of us (see my sections in the Gallery, right) and also took on other roles to deligate the work. Mark and I worked on the editing and effects of the animation visuals and I also created the diegetic sound work and sound editing.

We used strong iconography of boxed imagery and being swallowed to instate the feelings of being trapped whether in existence or statement of being unknown, as the extreme mental state that Samuel Beckett's prose portrays.

The animation drives on the annoyance, pressures and recurring images through the mix of sound layers, striking visuals and choppy editing techniques.
