Shout Out Ippie Designs
One of the other ideas I had for the home page of the website was to create more of a feature of the Recent Comments section in the right hand column. (See a screenshot of the page below.)
As you can see it is quite sparce in its current state, however, my proposal was to add more imagery either in the form of illustrations or using the member's avatar images (the image which the member selects to represent themselves on the ShowOff and Forum pages).
The simple designs I came up with are displayed below.
After pitching these ideas to the team, we decided that we liked the idea of the speech bubble showing the 3 most recent comments (see top right and bottom left). However instead of the character being to the side, we discussed that the bubble should be along the top and the character underneath.
Much of the team like the idea of bringing the Ippies back. Ippies are random characters created by the IP1 volunteers that can be used in several different parts of the magazine and website. This time the Ippies would be based around the funny arms from the Grab Mag Flash Animations: pirate, hoody, octopus, spaceman and old granny.
These images show the development from my initial sketch ideas to the finalised Ippie character designs I have created using Adobe Photoshop.
I have since decided to change the old granny into a more fun and surprising arm that you will have to watch out for on the IP1 website when the animations are put online!
Yet these characters will hopefully make their way onto the homepage and be randomly selected to appear each time the page is refreshed or loaded. I'll add more information when I know more soon!
